Walk to School Program

NNTMA is a proud sponsor of the Walk to School Program, which is specifically developed for children of Natomas Park Elementary School. This program is designed to provide students an organized, safe and healthy option for their journey to school. Our children can go on an adventure, walking to school in their own neighborhood, with adult supervision. Safety is our #1 Priority!

Tips for teaching kids to be safe pedestrians

Goals of the program:

  • Increase safety for pedestrians in the school and neighborhood
  • Reduce traffic in and around the school
  • Decrease crime when more people are outside keeping an eye on their neighborhood
  • Increase daily physical activities for children and adults
  • Increase community cohesion by helping neighbors get to know one another

Children participating in the program:

  • Walk to and from school in groups led by adult volunteers (having had background checks and training)
  • Use safest routes

Adult Volunteers participating in the program as supervisors:

  • Dedicate as little as one hour per week
  • Must complete CPR and First Aid training*
  • Must complete Walk to School training*
  • Must submit to a background screening*

* All training and screening is provided by the Walk to School Program at no cost to the adult volunteer.

The success of this program is dependent on adult volunteers! If you would like to be involved but cannot be a supervisor, there are other ways you can play a vital role.
