  • Purchase our local racing jersey (Los Tigres del Norte) for only $10.  Wear proudly to all Bike Commute Month events!

2. Be a billboard; wear a t-shirt

With few dollars in the budget for promoting Bike Commute Month, we are depending on our faithful cyclists to help us get the word out about the web site. How? By picking up a free t-shirt (only one per person, please) and wearing it as much as possible during May.

Get your free t-shirt (and other goodies) by visiting an Energizer Stations on Saturday, April 29, 9 -11 a.m. It's not a bad time to get in a practice bike ride, either. Look for the Bike Commute Month banner in these locations:

  • Roseville - Miners Ravine at Sculpture Park (350 North Sunrise Avenue)
  • Davis - Farmers Market
  • Near Sac State - Guy West Bridge
  • Along American River Bike Trail - near Goethe Park
  • Along the American River Bike Trail - Nimbus Fish Hatchery
  • Folsom - Humbug-Willow Creek Trail at the Kid's Play Park

Energizer Stations will also have water and cookies!

You can also pick up a t-shirt during the month of May at the Natomas Bike Shop, 3291 Truxel Road - first come, first served, so get yours before they are gone.

3. May is Million Mile Month!

Are you up for a challenge? To prove to the Sacramento Region that cycling is an important transportation mode, we are challenging cyclists to log one million miles during the month of May. Commute miles, recreation miles, training miles, errands – they all count.

4. Start or join a pedal pool

During Bike Commute Month 2006, thousands of cyclists will be meeting to cycle to work in a "pedal pool." A pedal pool is a group of two or more cyclists who meet at a designated location and commute together. Pedal pools are safer and more fun than riding alone! Using the Bike Commute Month website, you can start a pedal pool or join an existing one.

5. Nominate for the Bike Friendly Awards

Know someone who deserves an award for their passion for cycling?  Nominate someone you know for Cyclist of the Year, Bike Friendly Employer, and Bike Advocate of the Year.  Local winners will be entered into the regional contest. The deadline for nominations is May 5th.

6. Share bike commute stories

Read stories from bike commuters who found that cycling to work improved their lives on many levels.  If you have a story to tell, submit one and inspire others to give cycling a try.

7. Bike Commute Month Wrap Up Rally

One Last Cycling Celebration …
Find out who logged the most miles in May, listen to music and enjoy food, check out really cool bicycles …. on Friday, June 9, 2 – 7 p.m. at Nimbus Flat State Park (near Hazel and US 50) when we memorialize 2006 Bike Commute Month and its key players.  Make this a family outing or bring your work buddies to this beautiful park along the American River Bike Trail just east of Nimbus Dam.

8. Get on your bike and ride!

Ride your bike to work, to the store, to your friends, to the gym, and everywhere.  It’s a fun and healthy way to get where you are going.
